Well, this is pretty funny

Apparently somebody jammed four different Megaman 2 hacks together to make... something really weird.  Normally that wouldn't be something I'd post about on here, so why am I? Well... because somehow, by freak random chance, one of the four hacks added to the bizarro ROM hack cocktail was my old Robertman 2, which I just finished playing through (as those who've read the most recent posts on here would know.)

Yeah... that preview image looks pretty familiar doesn't it? That's Numnum Man and Kirb Man from Robertman 2 right there, along with... bizarre fragments of their stage names (Numnum Falls is almost intact, and also "Mr.Donald's" XD) and chunks of something else mixed in.  Apparently the other hacks didn't change the appearance of the bosses, as those are pure Robertman pretty much.  As is Megaman's appearance and color scheme.

The most bizarre thing? This was done in 2013.  That means that someplace on the internet still had Robertman 2 available for download that late.  It certainly wasn't my old website where I had it downloadable -- that's been dead and gone for ages -- so I wasn't sure where the heck someone could've gotten it.

Poking around a bit with Google just now, though, I found that apparently someone had uploaded it to Zophar's Domain at some point.  I can only assume that "someone" wasn't me, as I don't recall ever actually putting any of my ROM hacks on that site (or any site other than my own, actually) and for some reason the uploader put the creator's name as simply "Eddie" (even though the name I used in the hack itself was "Dark Blubber") and linked to the old Gomamon Farm site which no longer exists.  I downloaded the IPS and apparently it was last changed sometime in 2003 -- which, for a second, I thought might mean that it was a very recent version of the hack... but then I remembered that my ROM files are also from 2003 and didn't have the Grakker graphics or any other changes I might have made later on.  So I figure this is probably the exact same version as what I have on my computer now.  A little more investigation reveals that whoever uploaded this one also added Goma-Mario and KL Final Fantasy to the site's listing as well, and apparently somebody at some point submitted the ancient version of my awful spoofy Pokémon Gold/Silver hack Dopeymon to I-Mockery as a possible "ROM hack review" candidate (sadly, it seems like they never actually did it... or hardly any other new hacks since the last time I checked the site, for that matter.  All the ones I see on the page now are ones I remember from years ago.)

Poking around a bit more, I find that there's also a Japanese website that randomly has Robertman 2 on a list of Megaman ROM hacks.  I wonder if people have found it from there and think this is some bizarre Japanese hack now, or something.  That'd be kinda funny.  As far as the other hacks, Goma-Mario seems to have been spread around quite a bit, strangely enough -- while Robertman 2 was only mentioned on a few sites that I could find through Google, KL Final Fantasy never got mentioned anywhere besides randomly being uploaded to Zophar's Domain, and Dopeymon was all but forgotten aside from it being on a (now dead) hack download site and being brought up once on some hacking forum (where some random person proceeded to take credit for it even though they had nothing to do with it and probably were still in elementary school when I actually made it back in 2002 or so)... I'm getting almost a full page of ROM hack list sites with Goma-Mario among their listings.  Weird.

I also came across a forum post where someone was trying to make an actual story/game out of the "4 hacks mashed together" thing, which used several of the bosses' names as-is (which I wouldn't be too happy about, if not for the whole "they never actually made it" thing XD) but also changed Numnum Man, Kirb Man, and Chef Eato to "Numan," "Kirb," and "Ito."  Interestingly, they gave Edwin -- who was either Eddie's clone or evil twin, depending on which version of the story -- the ability to create clones of himself.  There's no way they could have known he was actually a clone himself, so it's just a funny coincidence, but still.

Weird how some of my ancient stuff has somehow managed to live on, scattered here and there across the Internet, thanks to... whoever randomly uploaded these things to another website who-knows-how-long ago.

Complete Okédoké has been released to the public!

Yep--just like the title says, the complete 6-chapter version of Okédoké! La Leyenda Mexicana has been finished, packed up into a ZIP file, and uploaded so that all of you people can finally download and play the thing!

Slime Salad download page

Castle Paradox download page

These both have the exact same version of the game, by the way--I just have 'em both on here because the game is downloadable from two different places (in case one site goes down or something, I guess.)  Slime Salad is usually more reliable for fast downloading, but it also seems to be the target of hackers or the victim of weird website crashes more often (probably because it's just a more active site in general) so it may be down every once and a while.

And while you're waiting for Okédoké! to download (...you are downloading it, right?), here's some more screenshots that I don't think I've posted here yet:

Gravestones in El Pueblecito (and also Frogbucket) are now readable!
High in the mysterious Canadian mountains...

The second floor of the King's Castle now has NPCs.

New scene added to Chapter 1.  But where, and how...?

A new character who appears in an optional segment of Chapter 6.

A new hidden area in Chapter 2.  Wonder who lives here.

The Wizdum Guy, who gives vague advice about what to do next.

Yep... you can now trick the Alzheimer's priest into standing on the wrong side of his desk.

The Mayor of Beaverfoot's quiz has been drastically expanded.

The Scud Squeegee has gotten an upgrade.  Equip other XIII/Scud items to make it better.

And finally, the members of the Swarm can now be found hanging around after you've fought them all.

Somebody ripped graphics from one of my terrible old games. Wow. That's just... freaky.

Strange but true--apparently, back in the day somebody actually ripped graphics from my awful old game The Kirby Lands.  Specifically, the maptiles for the Dark World (and the gray-tile airport from the regular map), including those weird red tubes used as bridges between continents.

Check this stuff out.

Apparently Dan De La Rosa/The DexMaster used ripped graphics from The Kirby Lands (and also Wandering Hamster... but a million random kids back in the day ripped some hamster graphics for their games, so that's a bit less surprising) for at least part of one of his games, "The Ultimate RPG."  If you've played TKL and didn't block out the memories, that second screenshot with the ship flying over a brown landscape with a gray square "AIR PORT" tile, islands with random dark pits, and the easily-recognizable TKL Dark World red tube bridge should look really familiar.  I don't think those mountains are ripped from TKL, though; those are probably Dande originals.

I actually remember this guy, though I can't quite recall if I knew him in 2001 (when he made this game) or if it wasn't until later.  He was apparently a student at something called the "Bronx High School of Science" and his "Xth Year" games were supposed to correspond with his years at the school somehow (...what kind of high school goes for SIX years, though?)  I know I remember "Lavos Gates" and "Dr. Genno" being mentioned by him at some point, though--Dr. Genno was apparently intended to be a conglomeration of Dr. Gero from Dragonball Z, Dr. Wily from Mega Man, and (bizarrely) Geno from Super Mario RPG.  Kind of a "one of these things is not like the others" situation there.

I guess I must have already known him before this game was made, though, since he would've had to have found TKL on my own website (since Castle Paradox didn't exist yet and I don't remember there being any other centralized OHR download place back then) to get the graphics from the game in the first place.  I don't think I ever actually played his games, though I do remember he seemed to like The Kirby Lands and at one point came up with an idea to make Supernum appear as an unbeatable extra boss hidden under a bridge or something along those lines.  No idea if there actually is a hidden, unwinnable Supernum boss battle in any of the games mentioned on that page, so I'm not sure if he ever did it.  I guess that would explain why his games were so bad, if he was looking up to The Kirby Lands as an example of a "good" OHRRPGCE game.  Still, bizarre to find out that someone has actually ripped graphics from one of my games, and not even one of the good ones.

I almost kind of want to play through "The Ultimate RPG" now just to see how much really is taken from TKL.  Is it just the Dark World graphics, or did he snag anything else?  Is this the game that he put the hidden Supernum battle into, or did that one not ever get into a game?

And where the heck is that mysterious "4th Year" game mentioned in the "1st Year" one but never reviewed along with the rest?

Okédoké in the OHRRPGCE Top 15

Yep--the results for the OHRRPGCE Top 15 list (replacing the older Top 30 list, apparently) are in, and my own game Okédoké! La Leyenda Mexicana made it onto the list.  It's at #13, and only just barely (just two more points higher and it'd pass by #12.)  Plus, #15 and #14 are ties between two games, so it's actually twice as high up the list as it seems at first glance.

Here's the Top 15 list in its entirety, on the Hamster Wheel (the OHRRPGCE's new new blog thingie, since the Hamster Burrow seems to have gone inactive.)

Speaking of the Top 15 list, man am I glad that all of the games that got onto the list are actually legitimate, playable games (or in one case a long series of movies, but still.)  I was seriously afraid that a couple of super-awful (yet, somehow, well-liked by certain segments of the OHRRPGCE community) joke games--one of which is more "joke" than "game" despite claims to the contrary, the other of which is pretty much all joke and most of the time not even a funny one, like looking at a series of Internet memes from an alternate universe or something--were going to be on there, especially once I saw a couple of votes for them get posted... but it turns out that those two definitions of the word crap didn't even manage to get on as an Honorable Mention.  I'm honestly more excited about that part than I am about my own game getting on the list. XD

The Fnrrf Ygm Schnish wiki lives!

If you've tried to look at the Fnrrf Ygm Schnish wiki anytime in the past week or so, you probably noticed that it wouldn't load.  I'm not sure why, but apparently the whole Wikki wiki hosting service was down for a while and none of their pages were working.  But now it's up and running again! So go look at that, if you haven't already.

Something really odd I found drifting in the void of the Internet

The other day I randomly decided to search for things related to my old, crappy game The Kirby Lands on Google... and I ended up finding this oddity.  It's a post on the Kirby's Rainbow Resort forum, which I used to post on a long time ago... before they switched over to the current forum (so none of the posts from my active period on there still exist, as far as I can tell.)  Basically, this seems to be some kind of forum roleplaying/story thing, which isn't that unusual by itself... the weird part comes in when you look at who three of the characters happen to be.

Here's a brief except from one of the parts that features them.

….The Universe. It is an endless, boundless sea of stars that spread for eternity. In this eternal star ocean lays the Milky Way, the only star system where life is known to exist. In the far reaches of this brilliant galaxy dwells the Popstar system. This solar system is home to peaceful races that coincide with eachother….But as time has taught, there can never be peace without conflict. It is an endless cycle of fighting and peace that nothing can avoid.

Far, Far on the outside of the Popstar system floats another land. Only a few people from the inner system have ever been here, the others have never heard of it. This planet is known as “ The Kirby Lands”. Four years ago a horrific battle ensued on this lonely planet. A being known as Enduo attacked as the inhabitants were running a great tournament, known as “ The Tournament of Kirbies.” Rayd, Lunar, Killer Kirby, and Kirb fought bravely against this foe and were finally able to defeat him with the Kerhbi Bomb….

Four years have passed since then…..

A crowd is heard roaring loudly as 3 combatants enter the ring….

“Why is that pink Kirby here? Pink ones are too weak to fight in this kind of tournament.” Kirber asked Killer as the combatants entered the ring.

“You’ll see… I can’t believe you don’t remember….” Killer replied.

“….If you say so…” Kirber replied doubtfully…

“He’s right.” Kirb said motioning to Kirber. “ While working on new cameras for my….er…I mean… anyway, look at this.”

Kirb held up an energy scouter

“ Their power levels are only 5 and 8, they’re gonna get clobbered!” Kirb said worriedly.

“ Hahahaha, how soon you two forget!” Killer said laughing…

Down at the arena, one of the kirbies motioned to the other…

“…I’ve got this Sosuke” The Dreamlander with the white scarf said, as he motioned toward the other.

Sosuke nodded as he leaped off of the arena floor. Sosuke is a orange-ish color, wearing a blue bandanna. He has long blonde hair that’s spiked up above his head. Sosuke has a large scar across his eye.

The other combatant waved his arm and his scarf billowed as it was thrusted out of the way by his arm.

“ Who does this guy think he is?” the other fighter said, clicking buttons on his scouter. “ He’s only at level 5…”

The combatant smirked after the other fighter said this.

“…My my, you sure are cocky.” The combatant said.

“ Say what? Im about to whipe that grin off your face.” The fighter said.

A gong sounds.

As soon as the gong sounded the fighter lifted his hand up and fired an energy blast at the other combatant.

A ricochette and a explosion are heard. It echoes throughout the stadium…The combatant had deflected the energy blast.

The smoke from the blast spread across most of the arena floor, blocking out the view from most of the audience.

“Whats going on?” Kirb asked.

A loud echoing thud is heard, followed by groans of pain….as the dust settled, the combatant stood over the fallen fighter, his hand outstretched and his foot forward, a strike position. He turned around and walked off of the arena floor.

“ And the first bout goes to…Rayd Kiever!! The first elimination round has been finished!” The announcer yells.

“…Wait a sec…” Kirb said turning towards Killer. “ Isn’t that?!”

Killer smiled…

Yep, that is indeed someone else using Killer K'hyurbhi, Kurb, and Kirber (then known as Killer Kirby, Kirb, and... well, Kirber) as characters in their story.  And also randomly making the Kirby Lands (which, in the old game, were supposed to be a continent trapped in the Num Warps between nherbis) be a planet somewhere on the far reaches of Popstar's solar system, in Nintendo's Kirby universe.

Interestingly, it actually seems to use the "Killer Kirby taking on Kirber as his apprentice" thing mentioned at the end of The Kirby Lands... which either means that the guy who wrote this actually played through the game, or that I had mentioned that in the first tournament story and it just got carried over to here.  Killer Kirby being referred to as just "Killer" is kind of odd, though, especially considering that there already was a character named Killer (who was a Numnum.)

As far as I can remember, I didn't even know about this at the time it was being written, and I don't think anyone ever bothered to tell me that they were using my characters, either. (I wouldn't have really been able to get involved even if I knew about it, though, since at the time I had no idea how to use IRC chats, which they were apparently using for the battles.)  Of course, the thing never seems to have been finished, but still... it's really weird to randomly bump into something like this.
And for a bit of backstory: the "Enduo" mentioned isn't exactly Enduo Ril (aka Eddie Ril, who appears in Fnrrf Ygm Schnish: Alleghany Hell School) as we know him.  I actually do vaguely remember the original Tournament of Kirbies (sic) story, at least well enough to remember that part of it involved Eddie, Bridget, and Geno (from Super Mario RPG) being turned into Kirby-like creatures and brainwashed to attack everyone during the tournament.  I think Orrannudum, the evil mad scientist K'hyurbhi that Killer K'hyurbhi sealed away a long time ago, was responsible for it... though I can't remember for sure off the top of my head.   I find it kind of odd that only one of the three attackers from the first story is mentioned in this one (I'm assuming because Enduo was the last of the three to be defeated?) and that Orrannudum himself isn't, so I guess it's possible that Orrannudum never really made an appearance in the first story, or people forgot about him since he probably wasn't really much of a fighter compared to the other three.  Of course, this was apparently made in 2004, when the original story couldn't have been more than 2 or 3 years old... so I dunno.

In case you actually want to see this wackiness for yourself, here's a link to it.

The Fnrrf Ygm Schnish wiki is growing again!

Yeah... lately I've actually gotten some work in on expanding the Fnrrf Ygm Schnish wiki, adding more than a dozen new pages just in the past week or so.  In addition to filling in some stuff that was missing before (characters like Upchukk and Nummy, items like the Blubbermax pill, and critters like the Nummorrian centipede), I've also started adding pages about some of my old games and stories.  If you happened to see the wiki in its earliest days, you might remember that these things used to have their own pages but then they got deleted when I decided that the wiki wasn't going to cover my old stuff that's no longer being used.  Well, I've changed my mind on the issue, at least when it comes to old stories and games--even though characters and such from my old stuff will continue to not be covered, the stories and games themselves now have pages once again.

A few examples: an old Supernum story titled "Supernum Meets Commander Keen," the first ZZT game I ever made, and my attempt at making a card game in 6th grade.

EDIT: The wiki is dead, so none of these links will work anymore. :(

Random semi-related news

Apparently SVU decided to un-block fictionpress.net from their content filter thingie.

Which means... now you can read about Pugh the vampire in two different places: in my posts here, or on my page over there.  The only real difference is white text on a black background vs. black text on a white background, though, so if you've already read them here there's not much reason to read them again on a different website.  Unless you just wanted to read them again, I guess that's okay.

The Fnrrf Ygm Schnish wiki

It's still really, really incomplete, and I probably don't update it as often as I should, but... here's the link to the FYS wiki, which (when finished) will cover pretty much everything from all of my current games/stories/etc.  Annoyingly, they put giant banner ads for things I've never heard of all over the place at some point a few months back... but generally stuff should still be readable.

The Fnrrf Ygm Schnish wiki

EDIT: Wiki has been dead for quite a while now... this blog is slowly accumulating information to replace it (see the Khurbyish Dictionary and "Khurbyish Lesson" posts for a good example of that) but it's... not quite there yet. XD

Random links

Just some miscellaneous links to vaguely-related stuff.  May add more later if I remember anything that would make any sense to link to here.
  • http://www.formspring.me/FnrrfYgmSchnish -- Question-and-answer thing.  I'm kinda intending this to mostly be questions related to games and other stuff I make, but I guess general questions would be okay too.  I no longer have an account on Formspring.me, you'll probably just get an error message if you click this now.
  • http://www.fnrrfygmschnish.deviantart.com -- My DeviantArt page.  Mostly unused lately, since I don't have access to a scanner... but there's lots of old stuff on there.

First post

Yeah, first post here.  Not a whole lot to say so far, but I'll probably come back and add more stuff as I have more stuff to actually say.  For now, I'll just leave a bunch of links to stuff I've made here (these will be updated as I upload more games, come out with new versions of the older games, make other stuff, and so on.)

May 22nd 2015 EDIT: The links previously housed on this post have been moved to a sub-page of the blog overall, listed at the top of every page for easy access.
